Mater Olbia first company for employed, 90% of Sardinian employees

Mater Olbia is becoming one of the most important hospitals not only in Olbia and Gallura but in the whole of Sardinia. And not only because of the balance sheet numbers, which lead it to be the 55th company for revenues, according to the "Top 1000" analysis of Nuova Sardegna, which takes into account only companies with registered office in Sardinia, presented on Wednesday, May 30, at UniOlbia.

Mater Olbia is increasingly important for service to the community, because it is a private hospital but affiliated with the public health system.  And it is also for the positive impact on the territory.

The hospital - 75% participated by a company of the Qatar Foundation and 25% by the Fondazione Policlinico Agostino Gemelli IRCCS - is growing more and more and is doing so in Sardinia, in Olbia in particular.

90% of employees are resident in Sardinia

"Our current organic is of 463 dependent, of which 418 assumed to indeterminate time - the managing director of the Mater Olbia has explained, Marcello Giannico -. And this at a time when hospitals tend to take on temporary or VAT. In addition, the 90% of our employees are resident in Sardinia, with obvious repercussions on the territory".

This leads the Mater Olbia - according to calculations on the budgets of Atoka/Cerved, service used by Cipnes Gallura - to be the first in the top of private companies in Olbia by number of employees: Mater Olbia 463, group Geasar 431, group Nieddu Trasporti 381, Oltrans Service 362, General Conserve (As do Mar) 259, Cipnes Gallura 220, group Logistica Lucianu 137, group Sno 138, Aspo 132.

Committed to becoming the first IRCCS in Sardinia

But Mater Olbia is also engaged in science, education and culture. The hospital is working to become the first IRCCS (Institutes of Hospitalization and Scientific Care “Instituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico”) of Sardinia.

Gli Istituti di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS) - as explained by the Ministry of Health - "are excellent hospitals with research objectives, mainly clinical and translational; in the biomedical field and in that of the organization and management of health services and provide hospitalization and care of high specialties or perform other activities having the characteristics of excellence".

For Olbia and Sardinia, therefore, having Mater Olbia as Irccss would be a great opportunity for social growth.

The degree course in Nursing in Olbia

The activities of Mater Olbia, then, also focus on university education. Apart from the agreements with the two Sardinian universities for the specializations, Mater Olbia has signed a strategic agreement with UniOlbia, of which it has become a partner, and the University of Sassari for the offer of the degree course in Nursing from the academic year 2024/2025.

Work on the construction of the classrooms of Nursing at Mater Olbia has begun, as announced by UniOlbia. "And they will be finished in the summer," Giannico confirmed.

Then from October in Olbia will start the triennial to become Nurses, the first degree in medicine that will be obtained outside Sassari, confirming the importance of the widespread university and the role of UniOlbia as support to Sardinian universities and beyond.
