Olbia as the topic of the new edition of the Summer School 2025 CAMPUS ASIA
There will be 57 students, professors, mentors and staff from Pusan National University (South Korea), Tongji University (China), Kyushu and Oita University (Japan), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), the University of Palermo and the University of Sassari who will take part in the CAMPUS ASIA Summer School 2025 in Olbia.
All on-site lessons, starting September 1, 2025, will be conducted within the UniOlbia spaces, which has become an organizational partner for the implementation of the intensive international campus proposed by Pusan National University (South Korea) and the University of Sassari.
On July 21, 2025, an initial online meeting was held between the organizational part, professors and students and a first introduction was made by Professor Vanni Macciocco on what will be the main topic of this new edition of the Summer School.
Olbia: The main topic
The topic in question is precisely Olbia, which represents a perfect combination of innovation and respect for the complex environment in which its foundations stand. The urban and environmental area selected for the workshop focuses on the inner Gulf of Olbia, which has strong territorial ties with both the hill system and the outer Gulf.
The three areas of the project are closely linked and highlight how the city is developing in all parts of the Gulf. The Gulf, in fact, configures Olbia as an environmental city that concerns the relationship between the need for new infrastructure and the vulnerability of its coastal ecosystems. The coexistence of the city’s environmental and infrastructure elements poses a significant challenge to the projects students will accomplish.
In addition, the three areas involve places where the municipality is investing in innovative urban transformations. The workshop will then contribute to the development of design ideas that open up important perspectives for the strategic plan of the Gulf City of Olbia.
Area 1: Northern Shore of the Inner Gulf, which includes the industrial production district of the Cipnes Gallura where the objective of the workshop is to propose a coastal master plan for the industrial area and specific projects that integrate urban and industrial functions. In addition, the proposals should reduce the large scale of industrial spaces to an architectural scale that makes the industrial and commercial area habitable, accessible and usable by the public.
Area 2: Southern Border of the Inner Gulf, where interventions are already being implemented aimed at urban and social regeneration and environmental recovery where the Municipality of Olbia has started planning initiatives with projects aimed at social inclusion and active innovation in order to create a decentralized city where the suburbs will be valued in order to give a national significance in terms of archaeological heritage to the city.
The project focuses on the naturalistic and environmental redevelopment of the urban area of the south coast. The overall objective of the project is to improve the quality of life by restoring and enhancing urban and territorial quality in terms of environmental and ecological durability, particularly in the coastal and marine context. In addition, the initiative was designed with a dual goal of reducing social exclusion and improving employment levels. Local residents and tourists are expected to be the primary beneficiaries and users of the environmental destination.
Area 3: The Fluvial Park of Padrongianus which, together with Sa Corroncedda, are part of the national River Contracts programme with the aim of revitalizing areas that have long been abandoned and marginalized. The goal is to turn the area into a valuable resource for the entire community.
The strategic priorities to focus on during the summer school are related to the regeneration of the entire coastal/marine and agricultural intervention area, overcoming the fragmentation of project initiatives, the deterioration of abandoned buildings and public spaces. In addition, the connection between urban areas of the south bank of the Gulf with the Padrongianus river park is also a priority.
The appointment
The on-site workshop will start on September 1st with the inaugural day at the Magna Room of the UniOlbia Consortium, which will follow, throughout the first week of September, the laboratories and projects that will be carried out within the Student Hub of the Institutional Headquarters.
UniOlbia and CIPNES for internationalization
The Geovillage university accommodation in the production district of Olbia, managed by the Alma resort company, which acquired the complex for its relaunch with a training perspective with the creation of an international school, will host all the participants and staff of the Summer School, launching a clear signal of support for the international opening project of Olbia and Sardinia.
The idea of being able to host school students can be a first big step towards an internationalization process that could significantly impact the future of the city of Olbia and the university for an ever-increasing opening, not only in a national and European context but expanding its horizons to very different but at the same time very fascinating and innovative realities.
