Born in Olbia the degree course in Naval Engineering

Olbia will be home to the three-year degree in Naval Engineering, the first in Sardinia. The announcement was made today, 24 November, at a press conference held at UniOlbia. 

The new degree course is the result of a strategic agreement between the UniOlbia University Consortium and the University of Cagliari, and marks the beginning of a collaboration between the two realities at the service of the whole of Sardinia.

The Naval Engineering will be the eighth degree course to be offered in Olbia, and represents a further step in the transformation of Olbia into a university city. The programming of the degree is already underway, with the aim of inaugurating it in the academic year 2024/2025.

The new ambitious university project was illustrated by the Rector of the University of Cagliari, Francesco Mola, the General Director of the University of Cagliari, Aldo Urru, the President of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Cagliari, Daniele Cocco, from the mayor of Olbia, Settimo Nizzi, and from the President of the Consorzio Polo Universitario Olbia (UniOlbia), Aldo Carta.

A degree course for the whole Sardinia

The degree course in Naval Engineering has been conceived with a broad vision, destined to positively influence the entire economy of Sardinia. The objective is to train professionals of high level, specialized in the nautical field and, in particular, of the shipbuilding, a fundamental and sustainable pillar of the regional economy. 

This initiative aims to provide the new Sardinian generations - and also students from the rest of Italy and Europe - advanced skills and training oriented towards the sustainable future represented by the Blue Economy, of which Gallura is first in Italy for the number of employees. 

Olbia and Gallura are in fact the heart of the nautical district of Sardinia. With 102 nautical companies already installed in the productive district of Cipnes Gallura in Olbia - of which 17 additions only in the last week - and the Costa Smeralda, primary destination in the Mediterranean for the luxury superyachts, Sardinia is confirmed as a hub of international importance in the nautical sector.

Lessons next to the shipyards of Olbia

The degree course in Naval Engineering will have center in the area ex Sep, property of the Authority of Harbour System of the Sea of Sardinia, that it has effectively collaborated to the programming of the degree course. The headquarters is in the production district Cipnes Gallura in Olbia, a strategic position on the seashore, in direct contact with the shipyards. This placement not only facilitates practical and theoretical integration, but also allows students to fully immerse themselves in the world of boating, benefiting from a unique and high-level educational experience.

UniOlbia will constitute the organizational structure in support of the new course of the University of Cagliari for the managerial, infrastructural and logistic requirements, in particular for the didactics, to Olbia and Gallura.
